Launching the dragon boat launches the paddling season, which we did today, April 28. From its winter berth in a corner of the New Denver marina, 22 volunteers, 4 dogs, 3 by-standers and 2 paddlers righted the boat, wheeled it to the water, floated it clear, and paddled it to its slip on the dock. Thanks to all for coming out and helping.
Next Sunday, May 5, is our first paddle.
The dragons help
Before our first paddle on May 5, we pitched in to help make the New Denver Marina fire smart. May the fourth was with us as we raked, gleaned, and schlepped to harden the forest we love.
May Days parade and fair
May day, may day — oops, not that mayday. It’s the long weekend, and the dragons are in the parade again. Visit our booth in Centennial Park, support the team, and admire our float. Dragon wranglers Susan, Janet, Fran, Al and Dave refreshed the float for another great showing in the May Days parade. Looking forward to more pix to post after the parade.

May Days, 2024 version
Sunday, May 19, and we were excited for the party in Centennial Park where the Dragon Boat team booth is a major fundraiser for the society. Then, we celebrated our non profit float winning second place in that category in the evening parade. Photo credits: Deborah and Fran.

Sunday morning paddle update
Mornings have been chilly and wet but we’re on the lake at 8:30 anyway. Today, 2 June, Gina took a turn steering with Shelley training her. Welcome to the back of the boat, Gina. You look great there. Photo credit: Marilyn

First paddle across the lake, August 25
After years of wishing, the dragons crossed the lake. The Nemo Creek wildfire changed the landscape but not the pleasure of the paddle. Photo credit Irene.
The season continues when the summery weather continues
September 8, and it’s like high summer, and our boat is full of happy paddlers.

The end of another great paddling season
Our resilient community met the Slocan Lake Fire Complex head on. As the forest burned, team members helped where we could. Once the immediate danger passed, we headed onto the lake in sorrow and celebration. The seasons change, and it’s time to put the paddles away until next spring.
On October 26, a hearty crew of 27 wonderful people, and a few friendly dogs, pulled our dragon boat from the lake for a winter rest. Thanks to everyone who made it all happen.
And that’s a wrap for season 2024
The team gathered November 5, for an AGM and summer farewell party.
Until season 2025, paddles down.
